One Drop + One Drop
(Makes a Bigger Drop, Not Two)
Short film | 3'34 | English (voiceover) | Stereo sound | 2024
Premiered in April 2024 in Tel Aviv, One Drop + One Drop is a diaristic short film filmed by the artist at dawn, by the sea, facing the ruins of the former police station of Al-Manshiyya, a vanished Palestinian neighborhood in Jaffa.
The piece follows a single day: the funeral of the artist’s great-aunt, the last of her grandmother’s generation. Thirty-five kilometers away, bombs were falling. Seventy kilometers further, they kept falling. The artist moved through trains, bars, text messages, laughter, silence. And then , the sea.
The voiceover, performed by Joelle Milman, is spoken in English and traces this day in fragments: grief, forgetting, ritual, dislocation. The soundtrack blends this testimony with the ambient waves and Brambles’ “To Speak of Solitude.”
A drop plus a drop does not make two.
Only something heavier.
All aspects of the film, writing, text, filming, editing, montage, and direction, were carried out by the artist. With gratitude to Joelle Milman for her voice and performance and to Brambles for the generous use of their track.
